ECHA adds 10 new substances of very high concern to Candidate List

July 02, 2018

In June, The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) added 10 new substances of very high concern (SVHC) to the Candidate List.

As part of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 - otherwise known as REACH - ECHA has compiled a list of substances of very high concern that may require authorisation for sale or use in the European Economic Area. REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals.

Inclusion in the Candidate List can trigger certain legal obligations for the importers, producers and suppliers of an article that contains such a substance.

For example, any supplier of an article containing a substance on the Candidate List in a concentration above 0.1% weight by weight (w/w) shall provide the recipient of the article with sufficient information, available to the supplier, to allow safe use of the article including, as a minimum, the name of that substance.

Details of the ten newly added substances can be found on the Candidate List page of the ECHA website. The Candidate list is also known as the "REACH SVHC list".
